DKM Pocket Sudoku & Sudoku Sniper Support FAQ

The following frequently asked questions cover most of the support issues encountered by users of Pocket Sudoku or Sudoku Sniper.

What is .NET Compact Framework?

This is Microsoft's new generation software platform and is shipped as part of Windows Mobile from Version 2003 onwards. Most likely you have .NET already loaded on your Pocket PC unless you have an old one. The DKM software requires .NET version 1 to run - if you do not have it loaded, you may get it free from Microsoft here.

Pocket Sudoku Version 3.1 is compiled for Windows Mobile 6 devices and requires .NET version 2.0 (shipped with WM6).

The software gives an error when trying to install.

Often this is because the wrong steps are taken to install the program. The following is the correct procedure:
  1. After downloading the file from your vendor, save it in a temporary or any other folder on your desktop. Do not copy it directly to the PDA because the install file is a DESKTOP installation file.
  2. Make sure your PDA is connected to your desktop PC via ActiveSync.
  3. Double click (open) the file on the desktop and it should automatically install on the PDA.
  4. Once installed, you will find the program icon in the Programs -> Games folder on the PDA.
If the installation begins and is unable to copy a file, it may be because you have a version of the program running in memory on the PDA (for example the trial version). This is easy to happen because when you click on the X on the upper right of the title bar, the program still remains in memory (standard Pocket PC behavior). To make sure the program is not in memory, either select the "Exit" menu option or go to Settings -> System tab -> Memory -> Running Programs and you can then select and stop it.

I get an "invalid registration key" error message when I enter my registration key.

The registration key is based on the "Owner name" as entered in your Pocket PC. If your key is invalid, it usually means that the name you specified for the Owner name on your order for the product does not match the one in your Pocket PC. They must match EXACTLY (spaces, periods) else an invalid key will result. The error message will tell you what your Owner Name is, that is, the one the key is being matched against. Very often the name "Pocket PC" is specified on the order which more than likely is not the Owner Name.

Please contact your vendor, quoting the name in the error message (ie your Owner Name) and you will be issued with a correct key. Please DO NOT contact dkmsoftware to get a new key - this is the responsibility of the vendor. If you purchased via the dkmsoftware.com web site, then the vendor is Handango.

If the Owner name appears to be the one you did enter on your order, then it may be that there are hidden spaces or the like. Often this is solved by re-entering your Owner name in your Pocket PC. To do this, go to Settings -> Owner Information.

There is no menu option to enter my registration key.

The trial version of the program is different from the "purchase" version and does not allow registration. Once you have purchased a copy, make sure you download the "purchase" version from your vendor - you are give a link to the download area in your order email.

I have a Dell Axim X51v with WM5 and get intermittent display corruption in bottom rows of grid.

This is a Dell issue, not a software one but there is a workaround. Go to Settings->System->Power and under the Processor tab, change the setting to "Normal".

I have an iPAQ 4700 series PDA and get an error when launching the program.

There is a specific bug in .NET Compact Framework that only affects these PDAs. Please download the latest Service Pack 3 (SP3) from Microsoft here and it will fix your problem.
